Community Programs

The BVVSA offers a wide variety of educational programs to children, adults and community groups.

In our 2010/11 opertaional year, approximately 950 persons attended BVVSA educational presentations. This brings the total number of people who have attened BVVSA programs (since our program began in 1994) to 14,900 people.

Below is a list of educational programs that the BVVSA were involved with in 2010/11.

  • Presentations on Healthy Relationships and Domestic Abuse to Year 10 CALM students from the Banff High School and the Canmore Collegiate High School.
  • Participation in the Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program for Grade 9 students from the Banff High School, the Canmore Collegiate High School, and Our Lady of the Snows Academy.
  • Presentations to Year 10 students from the Banff High School and the Canmore Collegiate High School on suicide intervention and prevention.
  • Wellness workshop presentations to front-line and foreign workers.
  • Conducting presentations on suicide intervention and crisis intervention as part of the Bow Valley’s Community Helpers program.
  • Participation in a presentation on the Ethics of Extreme Sports.
  • The hosting of a regional victim service conference in Banff.
  • Trauma presentation to public safety specialists and conservation officers.
  • Presentations to several community groups on topics such as Suicide Intervention, Victim Services, Community Resources and Dealing with Difficult People.
