If you have been a victim of a crime you are entitled to complete a Victim Impact Statement. This allows you to express in writing how a crime has affected you, both physically and emotionally.
If charges are laid and an offender is found guilty, your statement will be considered by a judge at the time of sentencing. It is your chance to have a voice in the criminal justice system.
Victim Impact Statements can be read in court and can also be completed in your preferred language (not just in English).
At the time of sentencing your Victim Impact Statement will be read by the judge, the Crown Prosecutor and the offender’s lawyer. If there is any information that you do not want the offender to know, you should not include this information in your Victim Impact Statement.
